Juice Feasting
I gave my body a wonderful gift with 30 days of morning celery juice in March.
I had been wanting to try the protocol of straight celery juice for quite some time, and this spring I went for it!
In our Juice Feasting program, we strongly recommend that people are adding 1 head of celery to their green juices per day, as the organic sodium and other alkaline minerals are amazing for gut health and hence skin health, digestion, liver health, and truly every part of the system! If you think of your digestive system as a river, and every other function of that system is downstream from your gut, then you can start to get a sense of how important gut health is!
But despite being celery juice advocates, I've never tried the straight celery juice craze, and after seeing so many amazing health recovery stories I felt inspired to give it a try.
I followed the protocol carefully by drinking 1 L warm water with lemon upon rising in the morning, then waiting at least half an hour, then drinking 16-32 oz celery juice, and then waiting another 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.
This half hour period after drinking celery juice is important, as the alkaline minerals in the celery juice will temporarily dampen your digestive fire. Remember that stomach acid needs to be ACIDIC and strong to properly digest your food, and if you have just temporarily diluted it with a bunch of alkaline juice, it will not be up to full power again for at least 30 minutes.
Signs that you have eaten before regaining your digestive fire could include bloating, burping, farting, discomfort with digesting, and even nausea.
The positive side of this process is the reason that celery juice works so well to heal your gut! While celery juice temporarily dampens, or weakens, your digestive fire while it is in your stomach, over the long term your body takes those alkaline minerals and uses them to build a nice, strong, alkaline stomach lining, which in turn allows your body to produce nice strong stomach acid, which gives you better digestive fire, which gives you better nutrient absorption, which gives you better health. We want a strong stomach lining so we can have strong stomach acid, and our body needs all of those alkaline minerals to build that strong stomach lining which is one of the reasons why celery juice works so well at rebuilding gut health.

I do not have a dramatic recovery story to share, but I do have a happy maintenance story to share, and I know that my digestion received a good dose of support and wellness from my 30 days of celery juice!
I will definitely be doing it again! Next time though, I'll do it in July or August, when our weather is hot, as drinking and eating cold things first thing in the morning during cold weather is another sure way to dampen digestive fire, but that is a whole different topic for another day!

This is not a juice vs smoothie debate! They are both amazing, and long term we want both in our lives. So, if both are so good, what to get? A juicer? Or a high-speed blender?
