Quechua artisans from Peru.
From a textiles perspective, the ponchos these men are wearing are beyond impressive.
The communities they are from raised the sheep and alpaca, sheared and cleaned the wool by hand, spun it into yarn using drop spindles, dyed the yarn naturally using locally sourced plants and minerals, and wove the intricate patterns into the fabric using back-strap looms.
Much the same as their ancestors did 1,000 years ago.
The colors, patterns and symbols are all ancient, deeply meaningful and tell stories of their communities’ history, surroundings and spirituality. @ Peru
