Why do we miss? Anyone looking to improve their game asks themselves this question all the time. There are lots of reasons why but one of them can be rooted in indecision and/or unreasonable expectations and playing on a table you're not comfortable with can create a lot of this.
In the example below, the shooter has the choice to either float the 8ball in and settle on a big cut on the 9ball OR they could run the cue ball around the table three or four rails. Both are very reasonable choices you may already have a lot experience with. That said, when you do miss this shot, there may be a consistent theme to examine. If you're floating, you might lean toward undercutting the shot. When running the cue ball around the table, your misses will probably be overcuts.
This happens because we're prioritizing position over pocketing and the best way to combat this is by being more specific. Instead of telling yourself you want to land perfect, tell yourself HOW you want to land perfect. If you're floating the 8ball in, predict where the cue ball will land and that's your goal. Stay within the confines of what will LIKELY happen instead of what you WANT to happen.
Hey guys, I will be resuming instruction starting this week. My availability is very limited so please message me if you are interested.
