It’s National Summer Learning Week! ☀️📚
We’re celebrating the power of summer learning by continuing our Time Travel adventure into the 1910s—a decade of innovation, invention, and imagination.
🚗 Campers kicked off the week by learning how assembly lines changed the way cars were built, then used the engineering design process to build their own cardboard cars. Thanks to CarMax volunteers for lending a hand during build day, and to our ARF instructors who even 3D-printed custom parts, including screws, to help bring campers’ creations to life. Families joined us for a special “drive-in movie”, where campers showcased their creations.
🌱 In Community Service, campers learned about Victory Gardens, planted their own plants, and discovered how growing food helped families support their communities during wartime.
🍪 In Cooking, campers baked homemade Oreos from scratch—a treat first introduced in the 1910s. ARF camper Anele said she liked the homemade version even better!
📚 The Austin Public Library stopped by, giving campers the opportunity to pick out books to take home and keep the learning going beyond camp.
🏁 The week ended with a trip to Circuit of The Americas (COTA), where campers raced go-karts, designed their own mini racetracks, and built solar-powered cars, bringing a week of engineering and innovation full circle.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ARF’s Summer Learning Program is completely free for all youth, creating opportunities for hands-on discovery all summer long. The curiosity fostered at ARF inspires a lifelong love of learning that extends far beyond the summer months. 💙

Swipe to travel back in time! ✈️⏳
One of ARF’s Summer Learning Program themes is Time Travel, and last week our campers journeyed back to the 1900s to explore the science of flight and the groundbreaking work of the Wright Brothers.
From designing kites and testing creations in wind tunnels to making ping pong balls float on streams of air, campers discovered how wind, lift, and engineering make flight possible. The week ended with a visit to Georgetown Executive Airport, where campers climbed into real planes and put their own paper airplane designs to the test.
At the Andy Roddick Foundation, we believe learning should spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of discovery. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our Summer Learning Program is completely free for all youth, giving campers opportunities to explore, experiment, and dream big all summer long. 💙

Our community is grieving a friend, a voice for our children, a leader, a changemaker, a champion and so much more as we mourn the loss of Cathy McHorse.
We are fortunate to live in Austin where early childhood and afterschool and summer programs work so closely together. Cathy was the mastermind and leader behind the Travis County Proposition to create an investment channel for our youth.

She was fierce, a powerhouse with the kindest soul you could meet. Her wicked smartness was held with humility and modesty. We learned from the best and were inspired by Cathy - by her voice, confidence, persistence, collaborative approach, and standing for her values.
When the ARF team focuses on our value of "We Dream Big" we will always be reminded of Cathy's work and legacy.
Our thoughts are with her family and community during this hard time.
