Aside from music, Mac hosted Labor of Love, a live radio show, and had starring roles in both TV and film, playing Carl on the ABC series Rodney, co-starring with Nick Nolte in the sports classic North Dallas Forty, and also had starring roles in The Sting II, Cheaper to Keep Her, and Possums, as well as playing the title role in Will Rogers Follies on Broadway. Mac has been inducted into several halls of fame and won multiple awards, including the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year Award in 1974 and the inaugural People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Singer in 1975. Throughout his life, Mac used his celebrity status to support charitable organizations, such as the FAME Girls' Ranch and Pasadena's Humane Society. In 1998, he was awarded a star symbol on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame and even has a street named after him in his hometown of Lubbock, called Mac Davis Lane.
