For those fond of history, the latest Alaïa addition from the last post is part of the Met Costume Institute’s archives and was showcased in the exhibition “Bare Witness” in 1996. It dates the dress to 1987. However, the closest runway reference I found featured a dress with very similar construction from the FW 1984 collection. The collection also featured the same striped knit material on some other pieces of varying styles (slide 2). Either way, it’s an amazing dress and I can’t believe how well it’s held up its condition and style at around 40 years old.
