Episode 25 - What Causes Headaches? - S*x & Wellness with Dr. Mary Ever wonder what could be causing your headaches? And did you know there is a correlation with pelvic floor symptoms? We have Dr. Stephanie Vertrees on for this Episode. She is a board certified headache specialist neurologist. And today, we will ...

June is National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month. Migraine and headache treatment is one of Dr. Gonzales’ specialties and we are excited to join in the efforts of raising awareness about migraines and headaches. Chances are you or someone you know experiences migraines and/or headaches.

First off, we want to share some information about the phases of migraine. Understanding these phases is an integral part of migraine treatment and prevention.

Prodrome: In this phase, you have already triggered a migraine. Symptoms are subtle, nonspecific, and not always easy to associate with migraine. This is the best opportunity to start treating your migraine.

Aura (you may or may not experience this phase): Auras are neurological symptoms that come before the headache starts. There are many types of auras including visual, retinal, sensory, motor, language-related, and vestibular.

Headache: This is often the most debilitating phase. From a brain chemistry standpoint, the migraine is quite escalated, which makes it harder to break the cycle. So if you can avoid it, don’t wait until you feel pain before you start treatment.

Postdrome: Often described as a “migraine hangover”. This can happen as a migraine is fizzling out but often happens in the setting of a partially treated migraine.

Scroll through the post to learn more about the symptoms associated with each phase.

At Mind Body Physiotherapy we believe that with the right knowledge and guidance, our bodies can heal. Our movement-based PT that focuses on finding the root cause of your pain combined with the knowledge of what each migraine phase feels like for your body will be hugely helpful to your healing journey.
