That’s a NICE flare! Not sure what we are looking at here? This is a well-maintained live oak with plenty of space for this tree’s roots to breathe. Providing adequate space for the root flare minimizes the chance of girdling roots, competition with grass or other plants, and dry bark to avoid pests like beetles that can carve into the interior of the tree and cause stress. This was not our work but we can always admire great tree work!
Kudos to the arborists at Rice University.
