Simone Belser, co-founder of Protect Animals Worldwide, received a call about a puppy abandoned in a dumpster. Upon checking, she found a mother dog, later named Regina, shivering in the cold with five newborn puppies whose eyes hadn’t yet opened. The animals were at risk of dying from exposure.

They were quickly taken to the organization’s emergency hospital, where the puppies were stabilized and warmed. Regina cared diligently for her pups, helping them survive. All five puppies were eventually adopted into loving homes. Regina remained in the shelter, cautious and in need of a patient, quiet home. Weeks later, she met a family who accepted her scars and history, and she was adopted. Regina now enjoys a warm bed and safe home.
