Inspectors mainly will perform a full Level I inspection, which is the most detailed roadside inspection.
Driver

They will look at:

✅ CDL/license
✅ Medical card
✅ Logbook
✅ Seatbelt use
✅ Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse status
✅ Signs of drug or alcohol impairment

If something serious is wrong, the driver can be placed “out of service,” meaning they cannot continue driving until the issue is fixed.

Truck / Trailer

They will inspect:
✅ Brakes
✅ Tires
✅ Lights
✅ Suspension
✅ Steering
✅ Wheels/rims
✅ Fuel system
✅ Windshield wipers
✅ Coupling devices
✅ Cargo securement

If there is a serious safety violation, the truck can also be placed out of service until repaired.
