I have a plan and need your help. A few years ago I produced a film called Sacred Waters - The Okefenokee in Peril through sponsorship by the Okefenokee Protection Alliance. The film has been shared a lot. It has screened in film festivals around the area and I feel like it has created much awareness of the issue at hand; the potential disaster thanks to mining for titanium dioxide just outside the swamp's borders.
Right now, the Environmental Protection Division is deciding on draft permits for the mining company, Twin Pines. Folks, we cannot allow this to happen. No matter what the risk, any amount is too high.
With that said, I have started a GoFundMe page to raise money for a book that would be sent to Georgia legislators and representatives in our government. The book would be a way to show others who may not view a film, the beauty of the swamp through artistic images and written words. Maybe, just maybe, it would help in the voting process and push those sitting on the fence or unsure about what is at stake to vote against mining nearby. We can only hope and we can only try.
So, I'm asking for help in raising money for a book that would serve a purpose in helping to protect the Okefenokee Swamp. When finished, the book will be about 9x12 in size and 120 pages. It will consist of my black-and-white photography taken during this year at the swamp. I hope you can help. I promise I'll put any contribution you make towards this book and in doing my part to save the great Okefenokee.
