Social workers encounter survivors of brain injury much more frequently than is typically presumed. Furthermore, many of the behaviors, cognitive and emotional states that may occur as a result of brain injury can be misdiagnosed and there is an unfortunate lack of knowledge among many behavioral health practitioners regarding the sequelae of brain injury. In this workshop we will attempt to discuss this incongruity.

Sweetser breaks ground on Maine's first youth treatment facility in S**o 06/29/2026

Exciting news for Maine's children and families! 🌞

NASW ME is proud to celebrate alongside our partner, Sweetser, as construction has officially begun on Maine's first youth psychiatric residential treatment center in S**o. This new 16-bed center will provide intensive, 24-hour mental health care for children and teens with complex behavioral health needs, filling a critical gap in care to keep our young people out of emergency rooms and closer to home.

As Sweetser President and CEO Jayne Van Bramer shared at the groundbreaking, "It is about families who have spent sleepless nights searching for help and wondering where to turn. It is about ensuring that children get the care they need close to home.”

We are grateful to Sweetser and other community partners who helped make this project a reality. Read more on News Center Maine in comments.
