The merchant fleet gets all the attention — the containerships, the tankers, the bulk carriers. But behind every offshore platform, every deep-water survey, every port arrival, there’s a different class of vessel doing work most people never see.

🟠 Offshore Supply Ship (OSV) — The lifeline of the offshore oil and gas industry. Runs cargo, equipment, chemicals, and personnel between shore bases and platforms in all weather. A demanding vessel to work on — dynamic positioning, deck operations in open sea, and tight schedules regardless of conditions.

🔬 Research Ship — Floating laboratories operated by scientific institutions, navies, and survey companies. Mapping the seabed, monitoring ocean conditions, studying marine ecosystems. The crews are small, the missions are long, and the waters they work in are often remote and unforgiving.

🔧 Tugboat — The most powerful vessel relative to its size in any harbour. Assists large ships in berthing, unberthing, and manoeuvring in confined waters. Ocean-going tugs handle salvage and long-distance towing. Don’t underestimate them — a tug master’s skill is something else entirely.

🟡 Dredger — The reason ports stay operational. Continuously removes sediment buildup from channels, berths, and fairways. Without dredgers, most of the world’s major ports would silently become inaccessible within years.

A major milestone for Latshaw Drilling: Rig 50, the first of our new XTR (Extended Reach) 50 Series rigs, has just been completed at our Stillwater, Oklahoma, facility and is now headed to the Delaware Basin in New Mexico for Mewbourne Oil.

Our new XTR 50 Series is a 2,000 HP dual-speed AC rig, engineered for extended-reach laterals, featuring a mast and substructure designed to support a 1,000,000 pound hook load.

Behind Rig 50 is Rig 16, our upgraded 3,000 HP rig.
