Last week I took some time to visit the Cyrus The Great (Kourosh) statue at Nimrooz Park. His legacy is one of justice, freedom and tolerance as the ruler of the Persian Empire. What he is holding is “The Cyrus Cylinder, issued in 539 BC, widely considered the world’s first charter of human rights. It declared freedom of religion, abolished slavery, established racial equality, and allowed displaced people to return home, influencing modern human rights laws (aka our Constitutional “Bill of Rights”).

Our country, people & history has influenced & contributed so much to the world as we know it. In these difficult times, it felt peaceful and proud to be reminded of our roots. To be reflected in a positive light, instead of just hearing war & repression in Iran. I urge everyone to take a moment and visit this site and read the scriptures edged into all four sides of the stones. This reminded me to be proud of being Persian.
