On closing night of the Democratic National Convention, Walter Mondale was officially selected as Vice President. He and Jimmy Carter gave their respective acceptance speeches, and the Convention adjourned after a final benediction from Martin Luther King, Sr.

Maxine Reese, manager of the Carter campaign in Plains, served as one of Georgia's alternate delegates at the Democratic National Convention in 1976. Some items she was likely provided as a delegate include badges, a guide to NYC, a folder for paperwork such as the Presidential roll call form, and a seating chart as shown here from our collection.

These photos of Amy and Jason Carter were taken at the Americana Hotel in New York City, where they were oblivious to the television broadcasting the Presidential roll call as the states and territories submitted their votes for the Democratic nominee for President. Their father and grandfather, Jimmy Carter, officially became the nominee with 74.42% of votes cast.

On Night 2 of the Convention, speakers included Mayor Moon Landrieu of New Orleans, Senator George McGovern (South Dakota), and Senator Hubert Humphrey (Minnesota). Funnily enough, McGovern secretly voted for Ford because he was not convinced of Carter's capability. All three men would visit and collaborate with Carter during his Presidential term.
