We're back with another episode of Pulse Comix. In this episode, Deranta' and Kris talk about an early Robin Williams movie, Popeye.
Released in 1980, Popeye was Williams first starring role in big budget film and showcased his many talents he displayed in his standup and shows like Mork and Mindy. It was also a venture into new territory for comic book movies. Popeye wasn't you typical super hero character yet Williams breath refreshing life into a comic that had been around since the early 30's. The film was directed by well known Hollywood great Robert Altman, who'd filmed Oscar nominated films like Mash and Nashville. It showed that Hollywood was taking a serious look at the possibilities of using comic book/strip characters as source material for Hollywood films.
Although the movie made 60 million on a 20 million budget, it was not received well by critics. Rotten Tomatoes has it rated at 59% Tomatoes, which compared to some of the things put out today, ain't so bad. I enjoyed the film when it came out but what did I know, I was just a kid.

Attention all you Dragon Con fans!
Dragon Con is one of the most popular fan conventions held in the US. For one special weekend each year, people from all over the country travel to Atlanta in order to meet and greet with celebrities, dress up as some of their favorite characters and mingle with like-minded people. But one of the biggest reasons people visit Dragon Con every year is to party! Ok, party might sound too amateurish, let's say celebrate. And boy, do they celebrate all weekend long!
Gunnar Ohberg visited Dragon Con this year and wrote a 4 part story chronicling his adventures. Over the next 4 days, I'll release each part so you'll have a chance to re-visit that rowdy weekend. Hell, maybe you had a similar adventure yourself.
***This story is not for kids!!!***
It's an honest account of one persons travels over that weekend. It's not quite "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" but give it some time.
So sit back, grab your favorite beverage of choice and reminisce with Gunnar and he tells you all about his weekend at Dragon Con!

It’s almost noon and I should already be on the road to Dragon Con, but in truth I haven’t even started packing yet. I fall out of bed and wince as the bourbon in my gut does a somersault. Not how I imagined this morning. I’m racing down I-75 to scho…
