What kinda hardwood is this?
Buying a house, it's built in the late 50s. The carpeting in the home was installed in 1995. I pulled it back in the living room in two separate corners to find what may be good hardwood. As I walk around I hear it squeak, so it sounds like hardwood.

Soundproofing edges of ceiling
Our plasterer has done a superb job of the bedroom ceilings with resilient bars and two layers of acoustic board. The attic will be a music studio so its noise reduction is very important.
There are gaps in the boards around the edges which are weak spots for sound transmission.
What do you think the plasterer WILL do to fill those gaps. What SHOULD he do? The builder who hired him was confident but vague.

Does such joint make sense for a shelf? Can it be done with a chisel, or would I need a dovetail router bit?

1ā out of square ok? Am I overthinking this?
I have a question for everybody here. This is my first deck Iāve ever built. I am building a freestanding deck that is supported by two beams and utilizing box framing.. the deck is 26ā x 12ā.
I checked square on the deck and the portion by the house with the two patio doors is spot on when I do the 3,4,5 method and scaled it out to 9,12,15. The spot thatās furthest away towards the playground or in the second photo closest is off by 1 inch does this matter? I am 1 inch long on the 15 diagonal when I do 12 feet along the house and 9 feet away from the house.
I am planning on using timber tech composite boards, and putting a picture frame around the deck with a three-quarter inch overhang. My main question is am I overthinking this and 1 inch out of square is completely acceptable and Iāll never notice it or is this something I should work more on adjusting. I havenāt nailed the box frames to the beams yet with my hurricane ties so I still have some availability to maneuver if needed.
Just donāt wanna waste time trying to square it up if 1 inch is never going to be noticed

Caulking advice for natural finish windowsills.
Black vinyl windows, alder windowsills with what will be a natural wax finish, American clay plaster off-white walls. What windowsill caulking would you go with here?
Edit: not all the gaps are this tight. The biggest is probably 1/3ā because of a drywall weirding. Iām not worried about sealing for air leaks and more just wanting it all to look nice.

What is this trim called?
Can someone assist with telling me what this trim is to hide gaps between wall and cabinet?
I went to Home Depot today and could not find anything that looked similar.

Sanding through DIY wood filler?
I'm making a desk using crosscut pieces of a 2x4. Things were going well until I tried to fill the gaps with DIY wood filler (sawdust + wood glue). It turned out really splotchy. After sanding for about 4 hours it looks only slightly better. I'm using a 5inch random orbital sander with 60 grit. At the rate I'm going, I estimate I have at least 4 more hours of sanding. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Or does sanding always take this long? Is sanding through wood glue impossibly slow? Any advice is welcomed!!
