I just taught a client with an aggressive dog how to make their dog MORE aggressive…

A lot of people call me about aggression, anxiety, or reactivity…
but almost nobody calls me saying, “My dog won’t relax.”

And yet, that’s usually the root of everything else.

Pacing. Barking. Jumping. Following you everywhere.
Always “on.” Never settling.

Most dogs don’t misbehave because they’re stubborn.
They misbehave because they don’t know how to regulate themselves yet.

Calm behavior isn’t a personality trait.
It’s a learned skill.

I wrote something about why so many dogs struggle to relax indoors — and how that quietly turns into bigger behavior problems over time.

Maybe you brought your puppy home and started giving them a lot of freedom — maybe it seems generally ok, but slightly frustrating — or maybe it feels like the world is ending and nothing is working…

Some dogs don’t look anxious.
They don’t hide. They don’t shut down.

They’re busy.

They pace. They follow you. They bark at sounds. They grab toys. They jump up. They can’t seem to settle — even when nothing is happening.

A lot of owners describe these dogs as “high energy” or “just excitable.”

In reality, many of these dogs are overstimulated, not energetic.

Your dog isn’t “Suddenly Aggressive” because of — the LESS spectrum! This is the system we use to assess every dog in every situation.

I get to work with a lot of dogs labeled as having “extreme behavior,” but I wouldn’t call any of them bad.

They’re overwhelmed.

Sometimes that comes from past experiences.
Sometimes it’s just the stress of living in our human world.

When a dog reaches that state, the work isn’t about obedience or correction.
It’s about calming their nervous system and helping them feel grounded and safe again.

In that state, “bad behavior” doesn’t really exist.

The real work is helping dogs land in that place.

And that work isn’t measured by how well a dog can sit or down —
it’s measured by how comfortable they feel within your structure, system, and leadership.
