Arthritis is one of the most common health challenges facing senior dogs. As joints age, everyday activities like climbing stairs, jumping onto the couch, or getting up after a nap can become more difficult. Many dogs hide discomfort surprisingly well, so subtle changes in movement, activity level, or willingness to play may be the first clues. With veterinary care, appropriate exercise, weight management, and pain control, many senior dogs continue to enjoy happy, active lives for years.

One of the most remarkable discoveries from studies like the Dog Aging Project is how much dogs and humans have in common as they grow older. Dogs can develop arthritis, cancer, cognitive decline, hearing loss, vision changes, and many of the same age-related conditions that affect people. While aging may slow our companions down a little, it doesn't diminish the love, loyalty, or joy they bring to our lives. Understanding the changes that come with age helps us provide the comfort, care, and veterinary support senior dogs deserve.
