Not going to lie, part of the reason I’ve sort of disappeared is because I have become jaded, disenchanted and disappointed in this industry. For many years you have seen me speak on plagiarism and how it is the most blatant in the cake world than any other creative space I have ever witnessed. I don’t know what it will take for our industry to have higher moral standards and better ethics but while I have stood on this soap box seemingly alone, I have felt so violated. Not just violated for having my creative voice taken over and over again but because it’s thankless. I’ve been told to be grateful, I’ve been told to be flattered, I’ve been told that if I don’t want to be copied that I shouldn’t create.
I don’t have much of a point with this post other than I am tired. I just wish we could do better…

Please remember that imitation and inspiration are two different things. If you’re a professional and can’t come up with your own designs, please at the very least credit the artists you take from. Not just me obviously, but everyone who has inspired you all these years and set “trends” that they never meant to set. Educate your clients too, I know they bring you images to copy that you feel you can’t refuse. Pinterest is not a catalogue of designs to choose to copy from, it’s for inspiration only. Don’t forget about reverse image search too, og designers are so easy to find.

I hope to return with original work again soon but I’m trying to regain some faith in humanity in the meanwhile, on so many levels 😅
