I.O.Z.

form I.O.Z with the help of the Zumpano Audio Community (a.k.a ZAC Recording), an artist community turned recording studio compound in Atlanta, GA. in 2010 and then toured the southeastern United States with a full band sharing stages with Galactic, Fishbone, and Toubab Krew. While they did not continue to tour, they continued to collaborate and write music together. They started working on their current album, Life After Rome right around the shut-downs in 2020. Coming up with over 20 ideas, the duo zeroed in on 8 songs that seem to fit together like a story. It tells the story of a life and captures a snapshot a certain time. For this album, I.O.Z approached song writing from ALL angles. Maybe the idea came from a simple drumbeat, or maybe it was a chord progression. Generally, the music was created first and then the lyrics flowed out of that. I.O.Z allowed each song to have a say in the direction it was taking and the musicians chosen to execute it. “If you listen close enough the music will guide you.” The end-product is a fusion of genres (past, present and future), creating a melting pot of sounds and theories. With the framework for the album done, they brought together a cast of musicians from their extended artist community that casts a light of great respect for what Daniel and Steven were doing. Music industry veterans such as Sonny Emory and Jeff Sipe are just a few of talented musicians that contributed to Life After Rome.
