My mother’s love language was “acts of service.” She served her family nearly every day with the most delicious and nutritious Korean dishes.

To her, homemade food was a vehicle to drive her love into our bellies and memories.

I’m truly honored to join the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter.

Let me tell you why.

As many of you know, my mother has been suffering from this horrible brain disease for at least six years. She is now in the advanced stages of this merciless disorder. When my mom started showing signs, like forgetting my birthday and failing to recognize my daughter, I turned to the . My family and I felt lost. We felt isolated as phone calls from her friends and siblings slowed down. We had so many questions about how to handle this disease.

How do we know for sure that my mom has Alzheimer’s? (We were in denial)
Where do we go for a proper work-up and diagnosis?
When is the right time to hire a caregiver?
Is an assisted living facility or nursing home right for mom?

The Alzheimer’s Association® was with us every step of the way, pointing us in the right direction and connecting us to the experts we needed.

As a CNN news anchor, I went public with my family’s journey (which I struggled with) and it was the right decision. I have heard from so many of you. It reminded me of the prevalence of this disease (7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s) and reaffirmed that together we can and will end Alzheimer’s.

Today, I am grateful to be in a position to pay it forward by raising awareness, guiding others in the same predicament, and also helping raise funds for research and a cure! So when you see me knocking on your inbox, please lend an ear when I ask for your support!
