Wendy Watkins is being remembered for her service, resilience, and dedication following her passing at the age of 39. Fellow firefighters shared that she courageously battled cancer for nearly six years before passing away at her home in Paso Robles surrounded by family.

Watkins served with CAL FIRE’s San Luis Obispo Unit, where she earned the respect of colleagues as a committed firefighter, mentor, and trusted member of the department. Her dedication to helping others made a lasting impact on both the communities she protected and the firefighters she worked beside.

Throughout her battle with cancer, fellow firefighters described Watkins as someone who continued to demonstrate strength, determination, and compassion. Even during difficult times, she remained a source of encouragement and support for those around her.

Family, friends, and members of the fire service later gathered at Santa Margarita Ranch to celebrate her life and honor her contributions. Her legacy continues through the people she inspired, the lives she touched, and the example she set through both service and perseverance.
