🚧 Groundbreaking for a brighter future in South DeKalb! 🎉
Earlier today, DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson joined the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, Decide DeKalb Development Authority, community leaders, residents, development partners, and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the $28.9 million Candler Crossing development.
This transformative investment will help revitalize the Candler Road corridor, expand access to essential services, and create new economic opportunities for South DeKalb residents.
Approved unanimously by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, the project is located in District 3, represented by Commissioner Nicole Massiah, and Super District 7, represented by Commissioner Dr. LaDena Bolton.
Once completed, Candler Crossing will feature:
✅ A 50,325-square-foot Publix grocery store
✅ An 11,200-square-foot multi-tenant retail building
✅ Green space and pedestrian walkways
✅ A renovated MARTA bus stop
✅ Affordable commercial space for local businesses
The development is expected to generate more than 100 construction jobs and approximately 183 permanent jobs, bringing new investment, services, and opportunities to the community.

⚽️ DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, District 4 Commissioner Chakira Johnson, and Super District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry joined partners from the DeKalb United Sports Commission, Discover DeKalb, and Soccer in the Streets to announce a $50,000 grant investment that will expand access to free youth soccer programming countywide.
These programs include Goal Getters, Girls with Goals, LCF Camp, and Wednesday Night Lights.
This investment ensures a safe summer recreation environment for more than 250 youth and family participants while also providing leadership development, mentorship and structure.
