Sister Rosetta Tharpe is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the creation of rock and roll. Born in 1915, she was a pioneering guitarist and singer who blended gospel with rhythm, blues, and electric guitar long before it became mainstream. Her energetic performances, distortion-heavy sound, and stage presence inspired legends like Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, and Chuck Berry.

While she didn’t receive the same recognition during her lifetime as many male artists, historians and musicians today credit her as one of the true founders of the rock and roll sound.
