We will not be at Brasstown Farmer’s Market NC tomorrow 😞 on account of some car trouble. But! We will see y’all Saturday at Union County Farmers Market an NEXT Wednesday in Brasstown, N.C..

Big love and gratitude to y’all for reaching out with encouraging words after our cooler(/freezer) fiasco last week! We are still working out a few kinks with the equipment, but all’ll be well soon.

DISASTER!! COOLER TURNED TO FREEZER!! Full story below.

We are still in shock. Please watch this video if you are a CSA member or were planning to come see us at Union County Farmers Market tomorrow. 😭😢

Hope y’all are sitting down for this one.

Ilana here. Zach is currently pacing the farm and figuring out what to do.

I’ll be blunt with y’all. We had a mechanical failure on our cooler. Somehow, the (brand new) compressor failed and turned our cooler into a freezer. Unfortunately, we lost ALL OF OUR CROP.

This is a truly devastating moment for the farm and, therefore, for our family.

The timing could probably not have been much worse — first weekend of Summer CSA and Union County Farmers Market.

We have no choice but to cancel our first pickup, and we will also have to miss tomorrow’s market.

This was totally out of our control. We got a new compressor on the cooler last Summer — not even a year ago!! — and it has been working great… until now. What an absolute bummer.

Y’all KNOW we love growing food for you guys. Many of you are return CSA members, but for those of you who are new this season, please trust us when we say how truly devastated we are. There has always been a bit of risk associated with this line of work, but that does not make this loss any less demoralizing.

We know y’all count on us to feed your families and keep y’all healthy, and we know y’all share in this week’s devastation. I’m so very sorry have to break this awful news.

Folks, we literally lost thousands (plural!) of dollars in produce this morning. We’re talking salad, lettuce heads, beets, carrots, cabbage, baby spinach, leeks, green onions, kale, and more. As farmers, we are not guaranteed income, even though we work long hours and try our best to mitigate disaster. We earn the majority of our income for the year during this season. If this had happened in October, or even a couple months from now, things would feel less heavy, but OH MAN.

Anyway, just some perspective for y’all to consider. We love you, thank you for your support and understanding, and we will be back in action next weekend.

Pictured below: the thermostat showing 2 (you read that right) degrees. You can imagine the painful stomach drop Zach felt as he saw this number this morning.
