Today marks the Prakash Purab of our Fifth Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee, the youngest son of Sri Guru Ramdas Jee and Mata Bhani Jee. Guru Jee was born at Goindwal Sahib. Guru Jee learned Gurmukhi script and Gurbani from Baba Budha Jee. Guru Jee was also given a suitable education in Persian, Hindi, and Sanskrit languages.

Guru Arjan Dev Jee went on to construct Sri Harmandir Sahib and composed, “Sukhmani Sahib” a sacred prayer that is called a ‘consoler of the mind’ wherein the word ‘Sukh’ means peace or comfort while ‘mani’ means heart or mind.

To consolidate and extend Sikhism, Guru Arjan Dev Jee compiled the ‘Adi Granth’ which was later expanded to ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee’ by collecting hymns of past Gurus.
