🌞 Skin Cancer Awareness Month — Melanin Doesn’t Make You Invincible
If you think melanin makes you immune to skin cancer — we need to talk. 💛
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and the most dangerous myth in melanated skincare is still: “I don’t need sunscreen.”
Here’s the truth: melanin gives you the equivalent of about SPF 13. That’s it. Not enough to replace daily sun protection — and not enough to prevent the dark marks, premature aging, and yes, skin cancers that disproportionately go undiagnosed in our community.
Skin cancer in melanated skin is often diagnosed later. Outcomes are often worse. Daily SPF isn’t optional — it’s foundational.
This whole month, we’re walking you through what real sun protection looks like. Starting with this one rule:
✨ SPF every single morning. Rain. Cloud. Indoor day. Window light counts too.
Our Luminous Defense SPF 50 is mineral, FDA-registered, and finishes invisible on melanin. No white cast. No excuses.

Things We’d NEVER do in my 40s as a dermatologist… 🙅🏾‍♀️
❌ Skip SPF on a cloudy day
❌ Use harsh exfoliants weekly
❌ Rely on a 10-step routine to do what 3 products can
❌ Sleep in makeup (not even once!)
❌ Ignore the neck and décolletage
âś… Use bakuchiol everyday instead of irritating retinol
✅ Keep it simple — cleanse, moisturize, protect
âś… Apply SPF every single morning, rain or shine
Your skin doesn’t need more — it needs better. 💚
