When do you feel in control? When do you not, and why does it matter? Do these feelings come from inside or outside you? To Blast Theory, things like coffee, junk food, and alcohol (or more illicit substances) can make life more manageable. See how they explore this revelation at the “HOOKED: When Want Becomes Need” exhibit at .
It’s the age-old dilemma: nature vs nurture. When it comes to addiction, the answer isn’t so clear clut. Because while everyone is hardwired to seek pleasure, different factors (such as your environment, income level, friends/family) may determine whether we become addicted to our vices, whether they be food, material goods, or even other people. To explore what happens when we indulge too deeply in our desires, the created the “Hooked: when want turns to need” exhibit, where artists and researchers explore, among other things, new approaches to shifting the stigma on addiction from the individual to society, at large.

Does life speed up or slow down when you try to take control over it? Nowadays, the pace at which you experience life depends on the strength of your internet connection. And while some might justifiably feel that connection is a fundamental aspect of being human, science shows that constant engagement with the internet and our cellphones recalibrates our brains to make us dependent on our devices. The “HOOKED: when want becomes need” exhibition at invites you to explore such topics through scientific and artistic representations of addiction, its causes, and its consequences.
