Let’s talk about……
Carry On.
NOT to be confused with moving on, which I recently posted. That was a personal moment and one I will address later. This is about us, as actors/creatives how do we CARRY ON?
Recently I had a conversation with a friend/student and he was upset he had been unpinned for a really nice role on a popular series. A series which read him 3 times in the previous season so no doubt they really liked him, it just wasn’t the right fit… this time. IT HAPPENS. He wanted to quit, stop “caring on” and I asked why? His answer was something in line with it all feels like it’s all for nothing, feels like failing, feels like rejection. Yet, it isn’t, so why would it FEEL that way. What is it we really need?
Let’s look at VALIDATION. That thing we all need BUT place it outside of ourselves. When we look externally for an internal issue we will always feel unsatisfied. Someone or something to build up our confidence. I have NEVER met anyone who went to bed unconfident and woke up confident, doesn’t really happen that way. It’s a collection of little steps that make the difference. AND MOST importantly acknowledge that hard work for that little step for yourself. YOU MUST take stock of your accomplishments over this last year or you will be stuck in last years regret. Be proud of your hard work, those wins, those moments that took you farther towards that goal.
Being proud of oneself is not a bad thing. It’s a quiet moment. It’s a personal moment. It’s when those with” put on confidence” feel it necessary to shout it out in conceit, its skews and pollutes the feeling. So I say feel good about what you have accomplished, big and SMALL as it all adds up.
Your MOTIVATION to carry on will always be you're WHY, so let’s take a closer look at YOUR WHY…….Next time :)
