DanceRX began as an idea that would bridge science and dance – offering dancers a way to utilize their own DNA to optimize their dance performance. Our co-founder, Sarah Haslock – Johnson is one of the premier ballet studio owners and teachers in the southwestern United States, and has partnered with a lab at the forefront of genetics research and testing, myDNA.

We get many questions about which genes we analyze and why. Today, where educating you on one of those genes 🧬

The ACTN3 gene is linked to a genetic influence between elite and non-elite athletes. Fast twitch fibers affect quick, powerful movements, rapid contractions, flexibility and injury risk.

How does this impact dancers? Your fast-twitch fibers can affect your ability to perform certain moves, such as the petit allegro. Targeted cross-training can strengthen these fast-twitch fibers so they don’t fatigue as quickly.

It’s a magical time of year, filled with excitement, love and hope for the year ahead. It can also be a little exhausting if we don’t practice that incredible thing called “self-care.”

Tell us, what are you doing to care for yourself during the holiday season? Are you being mindful of sleep? Nutrition? Hydration?

Sending you this loving reminder that when you take care of yourself, you allow yourself to show up in a much healthier way for everyone else ✨
