During our plenary panel, Advancing Black Maternal Health and Justice within the Fight for Reproductive Autonomy, panelist Pilar Herrero of Center for Reproductive Rights shared reflections that couldn’t have been anything but the truth.
She named how laws have long been used to suppress midwifery care, especially among Black and Indigenous midwives, and how this pattern mirrors the ongoing assault on abortion access. Her insights echoed what so many of us know deeply...that reproductive autonomy, birth justice, and Black Maternal Health are inseparable.
This conversation was a necessary call to action and a reminder of the work ahead.
