Why does soda go flat after you open it? 🥤
Soda contains dissolved carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas under pressure. When the bottle is opened, the pressure decreases and the gas begins to escape as bubbles.
As more CO₂ leaves the liquid over time, the soda loses its carbonation and its crisp, sharp taste.
Temperature and pressure both play a role — keeping soda cold and sealed helps slow the loss of carbonation.
So the next time your soda goes flat, remember, you’re watching gas laws in action.
