Day 34 Shutdown Alert 🚨

Today is the 34th day of the shutdown and Congress is still closed, and refused to do The People’s business. And what is Governor Kemp doing for Georgia? What should the Chief Executive be doing in this moment?

Did you know that the U.S. federal government has not passed a full, comprehensive budget (all 12 appropriations bills) on time by the October 1st deadline since 1996 for Fiscal Year 1997.

What's Happening Now?
As of today, the federal government is still SHUT DOWN. 🚫

• The Government is "Closed": Funding lapsed on October 1, and Congress has failed to pass new appropriations or a temporary Continuing Resolution (CR). This means many non-essential agencies are closed for business, and hundreds of thousands of federal workers are either furloughed or working without pay.

• Congressional Stalemate: The funding lapse is due to an inability of Congress to reach an agreement on spending legislation for the new fiscal year. The Senate is deadlocked, repeatedly failing to pass stopgap measures due to partisan disagreements over spending levels and policy riders.

Instead of a full budget, the government is currently in a state of crisis, with essential services at risk and most discretionary operations suspended—and it is negatively influencing the state agencies in Georgia and our families.

As governor, I would have called a special session by day 30 and request the Georgia General Assembly the authorization for emergency funding to mitigate the unexpected funding gaps caused by the shutdown.
In short, Georgia families will be taken care of!
