Coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (CWP) causes progressive scarring and worsening lung function. It caused or contributed to almost 2,000 deaths in 2020-2023. Elevated CWP mortality was identified among workers in industries like mining, construction and manufacturing, and occupations like construction and extraction.
