Growing up, my mom used to tell me, if you don’t have anything nice or encouraging to say, close your mouth, open your heart and pray.
In this season of our lives, we should work to ensure that what we say is just and lifts others up. It’s easier for people to hear you when they know that your goal is to lift, encourage, bless and be a resource.
The Bible says, “for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks”
I realize my mom told me to close my mouth, open my heart and pray because she wanted my words to be a blessing and not a hindrance to others. She wanted me to speak Life not just for myself, but also for those I was in relationship with.
As a parent myself, I recognize that our young people follow our lead, what we say and do our children will do the same.
