Today we acknowledge international day of persons with dissabilities. In many parts of the world and even seemingly “1st world countries”the right of people with disabilities is continually undermined.

Ableism continues to be a challenge in all spaces and places. Often neurotypical and able-bodied individuals will undermine, perpetuate micro insults, micro aggressions and micro assualts amongst persons with dissabilities because they may perceive that the person is helpless.

1. Inquire about someone’s day and engage in regular conversation as opposed to addressing someone's dissability as a point of dialogue.
2. Not all dissabilities are physical, some people also struggle with intellectual dissabilities that impact their social and occupational functioning.
3. Don't assume you're being helpful just because someone may not be able bodied. Being invasive and intrusive is never helpful. ASK FOR CONSENT before “aiding” someone .
4. People with dissabilities have other interests, aspirations and goals. They are not sitting around morning noon and night thinking about their daily challenges. It is a lifestyle yes, but it's not their whole life.
