Want to see something absolutely amazing?

Meet Spike. ❤️

Yesterday, he got a chance to put all of his training to the test at Tractor Supply. With people, carts, smells, noises, and endless distractions everywhere, his handler asked him to stay while walking away down the aisle, picking up bags of food, and moving around him.

And Spike absolutely nailed it.

When Spike entered the program, he was an energetic, unfocused adolescent dog who had likely never been given much structure or guidance. Through months of consistency, patience, and dedication from his inmate handler, he has transformed into a dog who understands boundaries, trusts his person, and knows exactly what is expected of him.

Moments like this are rewarding not only because of what they show us about the dogs, but because they allow the inmates to see their hard work paying off in real time.

Spike is proof that second chances work - for dogs and people alike.

Now all he needs is a forever home. ❤️

What a great turnout yesterday at Tractor Supply!

Our inmate handlers had a unique opportunity to work their dogs in a completely new environment filled with unfamiliar sights, sounds, smells, and distractions. It was incredibly rewarding to watch them put all that training to the test and see just how well their hard work paid off.

We’ll be sharing the videos separately (Facebook doesn’t allow multiple vids in one post 🙃), so be sure to scroll through our page and check them out. These dogs showed off their skills, confidence, and personalities, and they’re all looking for families of their own.

If you’re searching for your new best friend, look no further. ❤️

All of these dogs are available for adoption through ACC Animal Services at 125 Buddy Christian Way.

When a Project Homebound dog who has been in the system for over a year finally leaves, the feelings are big. Really big.

For the dogs, it means the world is about to get a lot bigger. For the people who have worked with them every day, it means letting go of someone they’ve invested time, patience, and care into.

Gold came into the system needing a chance. Over the past year she learned how to sit, stay, focus, trust, and most importantly, connect.

Programs like Project Homebound work because of the people behind the scenes who show up every single day to help these dogs become their best selves. What you’re seeing in this photo is that moment of goodbye. The quiet recognition that the work mattered.

It’s never easy to watch them go.
But that’s the goal.

And today, Gold gets to step into the life she’s been preparing for.

Spike’s first class was today.

At the beginning… he had no idea what “sit” meant.
By the end… look at that perfect little sit.

This is what patience, consistency, and teamwork look like. Just one of many dogs in the program getting polished and ready for their forever homes. 💛

Four inmates. Four dogs.
Eight lives changing in real time.

Discipline. Patience. Purpose.
For some of these men, this is the first time something has depended on them, and the first time in a long time they’ve believed they could be better.

Rampage. Cain. Athena. Mindi.
Not just training for obedience…
but for a future.

This is Project Homebound.
Rehabilitation with a heartbeat.

This drill is a perfect example of the dedication at Project Homebound.
All five handlers walk forward at the same time, each working on different things. This creates distractions, but also builds a stronger connection when these guys can keep the focus of their dog. You can see which dogs are still mentally connected, even when the leash is loose.

Gold (in the middle) is a perfect example:
Her handler drops the leash.
He directs her to ‘stay’.
He walks 15 feet ahead.
He calls her.
She comes.

That focus isn’t obedience.
It’s a relationship.

Training isn’t really about commands.
It’s about connection.

When a dog feels safe, seen, and understood, they want to listen. They lean in. They try. They trust. And that’s when the real magic happens - not because someone demanded it, but because a relationship was built.

This is what we’re teaching here.
Not just sit and stay…
but how to grow something real between two hearts. 🐾

These are the beating hearts behind the barbed wire fence.
Project Homebound doing what it does best.
Every command builds confidence.
Every walk builds trust.

This is the work ❤️🐾❤️

Huge thank you to our recent donor for gifting the program brand-new agility equipment ! The dogs (and the handlers!) had an incredible time today putting it to use.

Agility isn’t just exercise - it’s confidence-building. It teaches focus, communication, and trust on both ends of the leash. Watching our guys guide these dogs over jumps for the very first time was something truly special.

This equipment gives our handlers new skills to practice and gives the dogs a fun, challenging way to grow mentally and physically.
It’s a win for everyone.

Thank you to our supporters for believing in the work we’re doing. These moments are possible because of you.
