2016 Baker Peace Conference to Focus on Middle East, March 24-25
The 2016 Baker Peace Conference at Ohio University has been scheduled for March 24 & 25. This conference will focus on the Middle East, from World War I to the present time.
Bohemian patternDr. Rashid Khalidi will be the keynote speaker on Thursday evening in Nelson Commons. Khalidi is Chair of the Department of History at Columbia University, as well as Editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies. He served as an adviser to the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations from October 1991 until June 1993. Khalidi is the author of six books on various aspects of the history of the Middle East. Hislatest book, Brokers of Deceit: How the U.S. has Undermined Peace in the Middle East (2013), won the Lionel Trilling Book Award.
Three panels will convene on Friday in Baker Ballroom A.
The first panel will address the Middle East during the world wars, and will feature:

Dr. Eric Schewe, Ph.D. from the University of Michigan
The second panel will address the Middle East in the Cold War, and will feature:

Dr. Nathan Citino, Rice University
The third panel will address the current state of the Middle East, and will feature:
Dr. Asli Bali, University of California at Los Angeles
Dr. Bassam Haddad, George Mason University
Professor Noura Erakat, Esq., George Mason University
A detailed program with presentation titles and panel chairs will be made available during the 2015-16 academic year.

Job Opening: Assistant Professor of Southeast Asian History, tenure-track
The Department of History at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the history of modern Southeast Asia. Applicants must have a strong record of research, high proficiency in at least one Southeast Asian language, and an agenda for future scholarly achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to teach upper-division courses in Southeast Asian History and survey courses in World History, as well as teach and advise History MA and PhD students and MA students in the Asian Studies Program. Teaching load is two courses per semester. Ohio University was the first U.S. institution to teach Southeast Asian history and is home to one of North America's preeminent Southeast Asia library collections.

Sixth Annual Cambodian Conference to be held Match 14-16, 2014
Ohio University is pleased to host the Sixth Annual Khmer (Cambodian) Studies Forum from March 14-16, 2014. The Forum has as its theme, "Cambodia at a Crossroads." We are currently accepting abstracts for individual papers, panels, and other presentations (such as short film screenings), and welcome topics that address any aspect of "crossing"--border crossing, political changes, societal watersheds, artistic innovations.
