I have mixed feelings as I announce the closing of A Small Green Footprint. For 17 years I had the pleasure of curating an inventory of quality ecofriendly products for my wonderful customers. When I first started, there was no one place to find sustainably harvested wooden toys, stainless steel straws/lunch containers, and certainly no plastic-free options for diapering. For the better of our world, that has changed. There are more ‘green’ stores out there with many of the same excellent products I carry, and better yet, many of these types of products are available at big box stores - although I still maintain that the quality and social consciousness of my brands are way better ;)


Of course the rise of Amazon has had the strongest influence in my decision to close, as many of my brands now sell through them. They are good at what they do - amazing selection, quick free shipping, easy free returns and *sometimes* the best prices. It does make it hard for smaller businesses to compete. They are so good that many of us don’t even do a google search anymore, we go straight to Amazon. Please know that I am not shaming you, the Amazon truck visits my house as well. But if you enjoy having small businesses at your disposal, please shop with them this holiday season.
