The cat’s out of the bag! To celebrate RR Issue No. 50, we’re taking the RR Party back to where it all started — Athens, Georgia. Even better, it’s happening at the bar where I performed for the first time, once known as Hole In The Wall, now Flicker Bar. The stage has moved, but the Washington Street address is the same.

The line-up is stacked. Athens’ own Clay Leverett will kick it off, blending rock ’n’ roll and h***y tonk with the Classic City’s best voice for both. The Sweetman himself, Jason Crawford, will bring the rockin’ swagger — Athens roots, nearly two decades in San Francisco, now simmering in Sin City. Backed by her husband Dave Kirkpatrick, Annie Neeley of West Virginia will let her powerful, deeply expressive voice tell the story of the literal and metaphorical places she calls home. And Lew Card, a member of my first band the Feather Explosion, will trace the long road from East Tennessee to Austin and back, songs in tow. All told, it’s a real revelers’ reunion.
