I love when I get the chance to print big.

The details that can be overlooked in a smaller print get their time to shine and the bigger photo has a subtle power to pull me back and immerse me in that moment. This 16x20 print of one of my favorite backpacking memories is heading out to a new home today, and I couldn't be happier.

The part I used to skip: what happens after.

I'd come home from a morning outside, download images, and immediately move on to the next thing. It took me a while to realize I was leaving the best part on the table — that quiet window right after, when everything you noticed is still fresh.

Now I try to sit with it, even for a few minutes. Sometimes I write a sentence or two. Sometimes I just make tea, look at what I made, and remember what I was feeling.

Research actually backs this up — reflection after time in nature is one of the strongest ways to deepen your connection to it over time and have that feeling stick with you longer. You don't have to be a photographer. You just have to be willing to notice, and then remember.
