Big news for our oceans! 🌊🐟
Five African nations—Kenya, Seychelles, Gabon, Tanzania and South Africa—have announced major new commitments to improve transparency in their fisheries at the Our Ocean Conference.
They're working to expand electronic monitoring systems—technology that helps track fishing activity and improve transparency at sea. Together, these countries are driving a powerful shift toward more transparent, responsible fisheries management.
"This is the kind of decisive leadership the global community has been calling for," said The Nature Conservancy’s Ben Gilmer.

This may look like just a tortoise—but it's actually one of the Southeast's most important architects.
A gopher tortoise's burrow can stretch nearly 50 feet underground and provide shelter to hundreds of other animals, from Florida mice to burrowing owls to indigo snakes and more. When tortoises decline, whole ecosystems feel it.
That's why conservationists in Georgia are restoring longleaf pine habitat and bringing back prescribed fire, in an effort to protect more than 137,000 acres so far—giving gopher tortoises, and the many species that depend on them, room to thrive again.
Sometimes protecting nature starts underground.
