At dinner with the hubby and the kids, and the couple behind me was discussing Kate Spade and calling her selfish among other things. As we were close to the end of the meal, I sat and listened for a few minutes until we were ready to go. It also gave me a few minutes to collect my thoughts, because my initial reaction was to call them both blithering twatwaffles.

As I gathered up the kids, I leaned over and politely interrupted them. I mentioned that I had overheard their conversation, and I was appalled at them calling her selfish. Su***de is a lot of things, and selfish is the least of them. I asked that they next time they have that conversation, they might educate themselves before casting judgement and instead try for some compassion, my voice shaking in anger and emotion. The dude wouldn't make eye contact with me, but the wife did and at least nodded as I finished.

You never know someone's struggle and a little compassion goes a long way. You never know who's listening.
