Our CHP officers in the Santa Cruz Area hit the roads from July 2nd to July 5th to ensure the safety of our community. Here’s how we helped keep the roads safe:

🚀 **306** were for speeding
🗣️ **186** verbal warnings given
🚨 **24** arrests made, with **22** for DUI
🙏 **0** fatal crashes

🏎️ 💨 Driver Arrested for Felony Evading During Holiday Enforcement Period ‼️

This evening, one of our officers observed a Dodge Charger traveling at over 100 mph on NB HWY 1 and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the car fled, and a pursuit ensued. The Charger initially evaded, but due to effective communication and coordination, CHP officers were able to bring the Charger to a stop on NB HWY 1 near State Park Drive, and the driver was apprehended by CHP personnel.

The driver, a 27-year-old from Daly City, was taken into custody for felony evading and reckless driving, and the Charger was towed.

🚨 HOLIDAY ENFORCEMENT PERIOD IN FULL EFFECT 🚨

Yesterday evening, CHP officers pulled over a vehicle for excessive speeding on HWY 1. Remember, speeding isn’t just breaking the law—it’s risking lives. 🚗💨

‼️ Speeding is dangerous - it slows reaction time, increases stopping distance and crash severity, and can lead to serious, even fatal, consequences. According to the CHP’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System, speed contributes to an average of more than 115,000 collisions and about 600 traffic-related deaths in California each year. 💥

🛣️ To ensure safer roads, the CHP is rolling out the Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) from July 2 at 6 p.m. to July 5 at 11:59 p.m., with a strong focus on combating speeding. Let’s make safe choices, slow down, and save lives this holiday. 🎆
