Kalico Forest

Meg Fischer(Kali's cousin) and Brian Randall (Kali's brother) wrote "Her Story Matters" for Obstetrics & Gynecology - Green Journal in their Special Issue on Maternal Morbidity and Mortality. It's Kali's story, written for the clinicians who sit across from women like her every day.
The message is simple: one question, asked with care, can uncover danger that hides in plain sight.
That's why we built the Red Signal Program — a private, silent way for anyone experiencing intimate partner violence to ask for help during a routine medical visit. Zero cost. Live in about a week.
You may never know the impact of a conversation you start. Ask anyway.
Create the safe space anyway.

🌸 Yesterday was a powerful day for collaboration and hope!
Our Kalico Forest team had the honor of meeting with the incredible team at Golden House in Green Bay to explore ways we can work together to better serve survivors of domestic violence in Northeast Wisconsin.
We delivered some Freya’s Bloom boxes filled with essential items and resources to help support expectant mothers and their little ones as they begin new chapters in safety. Every box represents love, healing, and the belief that no one should face this journey alone.
We’re so grateful for the warm welcome and the shared passion we saw. Partnerships like this are how we create real, lasting change in our communities.
Together, we are stronger. 💜

Today would have been Kali’s birthday.
We miss her deeply, but her spirit lives on through every life touched by Kalico Forest. Today we’re out in Green Bay continuing our outreach to support survivors and families in need. We’re also busy building a fresh supply of hats from recent sales — each one helping fund our mission.
A heartfelt thank you to the generous foundation that made a $5,000 donation to keep this important work going strong (name to be shared soon).
In honor of Kali, consider a random act of kindness today — or support us with a donation to Freya’s Bloom Boxes, Zeke’s Creative Healing Program, or our shelter efforts. Your kindness turns pain into purpose, one life at a time. 💜

If it brings things back up, please reach out — to us, to each other, or to someone you trust.
They deserve to be remembered for who they were.

Yesterday was a big day. The Red Signal Program is officially live.
A simple red mark on a urine specimen cup. That’s all it takes to silently tell a clinic you need help. No words. No explanation. Just a signal — and a team ready to respond.
This wouldn’t be possible without the incredible partnership of Family Care of the Fox Cities, who opened their doors to bring this program to life. And a huge thank you to Harbor House Domestic & Sexual Violence Programs and Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, INC. for being the lifeline on the other side of that signal — ready to meet survivors exactly where they are.
Thank you to WFRV Local 5 for helping us share this story with Northeast Wisconsin. Awareness saves lives.
If we can save even one life because someone trusted us enough to pick up that red marker, then Kali’s light keeps shining.

This program is for everyone — women, men, teens, LGBTQ+ patients, anyone who needs a safe way to say "I'm not safe at home."
Healthcare organizations across Northeast Wisconsin are already joining. We're giving clinics everything they need — for free — and your clinic can be live in a week.
