Today’s topic is mindful eating and how to use the “Hunger Scale” below to stay within the safe zones of 4-6. As students, our schedules are packed full of classes, work, family, rest, and fun, without much time to sit down and slowly and fully enjoy our meals. It’s not uncommon to grab a bite to eat quickly before heading to school, eating in front of the TV, or choosing the “fast” options. These habits may not seem concerning on the surface, but they have the capability of distracting us from the cues our bodies are attempting to tell us we’re full and don’t need any more food.
Checking in with your body like you check in with a friend is just as important. Before getting too full, or getting too hungry, use this chart to rate your hunger to avoid going into the extreme zones on either side. Maintaining that 4-6 mark will keep you feeling satisfied, energetic, and feeling great!

What effects have you noticed exercise to have on your body? Perhaps, you experienced an enhanced mood. Usually within 5 minutes of moderate exercise, you get a mood-enhancement effect. You also can’t forget the significant impact it has on mental health. Exercise may boost a depressed person's outlook by helping them return to meaningful activity and providing a sense of accomplishment. Then there's the fact that a person's responsiveness to stress is moderated by activity. Exercise may be a way of biologically toughening up the brain so stress has less of a central impact. The more you know!
