The elders say

watching until the heart grows humble.

A quiet spirit sees
what hurried eyes pass by.
It knows the wound beneath anger,
and the prayer beneath silence.

Some guides come without footsteps,
carrying old medicine
from moonlit valleys,
from songs buried deep in cedar smoke.

They teach us to listen
before we speak,
to honor what is hidden,
to protect what is fragile.

So when the world grows cold,
keep one small fire within.
The night has its own blessing,
and the soul has its own wings.
