A “2x4” isn’t actually 2” x 4”.

Older homes often have true dimensional lumber — full-size framing that’s actually close to 2” x 4”. Newer lumber is typically 1.5” x 3.5” after milling and drying.

Why does it matter?

When remodeling older homes, especially on islands and historic areas like Doty, details matter. Wall thicknesses, framing tie-ins, drywall transitions, trim, doors, and structural planning all change when you’re working with real old-growth framing vs modern lumber.

This is the stuff you don’t see behind the walls — but it’s what separates patchwork remodeling from doing it right.

Crazy what we found hidden in this old house !!!!

Everyone said the old Newl Post hid more than memories…

People have whispered for years that the original deed to the property… and even old bank notes… were hidden somewhere inside the walls.

So we opened it up.

What we found?Honestly… not what we expected.

But after seeing what’s buried in this place… we’re not convinced the story is false either.

Some secrets don’t give themselves up that easily. 👀
