It all starts with a sketch, using paper and pencil, and some written direction from the art director ( Step 1), which is then followed up with a detailed phone conversation. NOTHING replaces actual talk, the human voice and connection. So much can be lost or mistranslated in an email and text messages.

This is a series of images I will be sharing for a new project for Sunkist. In the past I have done the art that is featured on crates in Sams Club and Costco, which are based on the Chinese year. This year is the year of the Rat. This animal poses all sorts of challenges, and you will see the development of my pencils to the final product over the next month.
